APOROSA Vata marched his Crusaders team into the Colonial Cup final after with a hard fought 23-18 win over the Sharks at Subrail Park in Labasa last night.

The nippy halfback scored two of the Crusaders three tries as the visitors took a commanding 18-0 lead at the breather in front of more than 3000 fans.

Setareki Ratatagia scored the other try while Waisea Luveniyali was successful with two penalties and one conversion.

However, poor discipline almost cost the Crusaders dearly as three players were shown the yellow card.

This allowed the Sharks to swim back into the game with tries to Apisalome Waqabaca and Mo Fatiaki.

Amani Bosenawai kicked over one conversion and two penalties.

However, time ran out for the giant killers who were chasing their first-ever cup final.

The match between the Knighst and the Highlanders this afternoon will determine who faces the Crusaders next week.

Crusaders coach Iliesa Tanivula praised his players for a grand gam.

"I'm happy with the boys' performance and I knew the Sharks would not be an easy team to defeat," the former Otago Highlanders winger said.

"We needed to hold our defence and I think the boys have improved from our last match.

Sharks coach Iferemi Tawake said the mental aspect of the game had the upper hand as his played failed to play as a team.

National coach Ilivasi Tabua said the Sharks proved there was untapped talent in the North.
