First of all VINAKA TAILEVU! We should take cue from what Tailevu has done. A new set of Management team and Officials was picked who made sweeping changes which was not swallowed easily by the die hardLY Tailevu fans who only gave 100% support after they beat Nadi. Changes made filtered down to disciplining rude fans at club levels. This was new to Tailevu rugby and clubs were disciplined for this.
On the selection of the squad itself, special considerations were made reqarding retaining key old players in key problem positions which paid off but hopefully they are grooming replacements as these old warriors days are numbered. Also we often wondered why the Secondary School Rugby stars
usually disappear annually. The officials selectively identified suitable graduates from the Secondary Schools Rugby Academy from around the country BRAVO. To this note I would like to end in encouraging all provincial sides to follow through to what Tailevu has done, if you have a process in place, improve on it because if we want to win the World Cup we have to make happen a world class domestic rugby competion, we cannot rely on cooked meals from foreing kitchen. FRU go SEMI-PRO or even PRO. Don't try to run the whole business yourself, filter down the benefits to the provincial and club levels and please stop suffocating RUGBY and let rugby alone be the winner and only rugby. FRU don't wear rugby shorts with side pockets...

Congratulation to the Naitas of Tailevu. Well come next year the Hakwa Nadro team will take the CUP back to the Vanua of LOUVATU because that is where those 2 Rugby Cups belongs to. That Farebrother Cup wants to come and have a bath at the Rewa River before it goes back to the Burning West. You know what I mean and so coming next year watch for the Nadro team again. This time will be a different story.

Well for me Tailevu just simply played smart rugby. They utilised their strengths well and minimised their mistakes.
The strength of the champion tailevu team was their big forwards and their kickers.
They used their wonderful kickers (Keresoni & James Vuli)to get them into strriking distances and forced teams into making mistakes. Once in the striking zone they turned to their big forwards to get them to the try line as SIMPLE AS THAT.
The team was also patient in everything they do this allowed them to overcome Suva and nadi in the last minute of the game.This showed another phase of rugby that is fastly becoming a very intergral part of preparing a team to win in this new era of rugby and that is the SPIRITUAL PREPARATION.
The calmness showed by the Tailevu team this year shows the spiritual fittness that they have. This was once the cornerstone of Nadroga team when Pastor Rinakama was coaching the stallions.
He managed to pass it on to the Flying Fijians and unfortunately Nadroga team did not want to embrace it and that is why they lost everything this year.
So to conclude the recipe for Tailevus win this year was SMART RUGBY arising frm three principles that is mental fittness physical fittness and most importantly spiritual fittness

Thankyou all boys for the superb teamwork and also to the head coach(s) and officials and particularly to the yasana in general for the continuous support ending up til the grand closing ceremony yesterday. Though I wasnt near nausori to watch the match, I was glued to the radio.. Truly Im so grateful. In closing, This year its ours to keep the trophy... Come next year we will see to that when that moment arrives again. Till then Vinaka to all the well wishers and die hard fans aswell.

The commander received $2554.74 in COLA payment, viewed as a salary overpayment, because he was on a fixed salary scale and not entitled to any COLA pay out.

The report released yesterday said Commodore Bainimarama was not entitled to the pay out as stipulated in the Public Service Commission circular 51 of 2005.

"Cabinet, at its meeting on December 6, 2005, agreed to a 3 per cent COLA payout to civil servants and government wage employees and that this payment, together with the 2 per cent one-off made in December, 2004. The COLA payment for 2004 only would be made to all eligible civil servants on Pay 26 of 2005, which will be payable on December 22," the report said.

"The salary payments for Pay 26 of 2005 with regards to the 3 per cent COLA revealed that most of the officers of the RFMF were overpaid. The officers were paid 732 days (2 years) instead of the approved 366 days (1 year) back pay," it stated.

It said most of the senior officers were overpaid by more than $400 and this included officers of the ranks of Lieutenant, Captain and Lt.Colonels.
The military commented that a restrictive of the pay office staff had been implemented and efforts would be made to make sure incorrect payments were erased completely.

The auditor's office recommended the military should review the incorrect payments and recover the overpayments from all the officers concerned.
It said supervisory control should be improved to ensure all salary payments were correct in all aspects.

Moreover, concerns were raised on the outstanding quarters deductions since some of the officers occupying government quarters were not paying any rent.

The officers who had outstanding arrears include Lt-Colonel Mosese Tikoitoga with $8,384.84, Major Sanaila Seru with $3306.39, Major Wakanivugahali Naivalu with $1053.84, Captain Anirudh Singh with $3153.72 and Colonel Esala Teleni with $23,922.92.

According to the Government rentals policy for officers, they are required to pay rent at the rate of 8 per cent of basic salary, with maximum limits of rent every year for different grades that include $1600 for special grade, $1400 for Grades I and II, $1200 for grade three, $1000 for grade 4, $720 for grade 5 and $480 for grade 6 and below.

According to the report, the military had not provided in writing the actions it would take on these officers and some of these officers were unwilling to pay these rents through salary deductions.
It recommended that action should be taken to recover rent and arrears from these officers and the military should ensure that General Orders 607 was compiled with.

The audit noted the military used its Telesat Project fund of $500,000 to buy goods and services that were not related to the project and it included:
The payment of rugby gear and travel expenses for the RFMF rugby team; and,
$150,000 worth of expenses for the Truth and Justice Campaign of which details of only $55,467 were provided, including details of airfares to Taveuni for a former Commander and wife on three occasions and one to Australia including domestic travel and accommodation. This suggests that the campaign was practically the spearhead for the failed election campaign of the National Alliance Party,

Other travel details provided without receipts included at least $75,000 worth of airfares, hotel accommodation and meals for the Commander and his wife on a personal visit to NZ to visit family members. This amount also included trips to Iraq via up to three weeks of stopovers in New York, London, Paris, Tel Aviv and Honolulu.

Further personal advances totally $62,000 were made to five officers, Col Ione Naivalurua with $5,000, Col Esala Teleni, $10,000, Col Pita Driti,$6000, Col Ului Mara, $10,000, Lt Colonal Mosese Tikoitoga,$3000, Capt Francis Kean,$15,000, Capt Mason Smith $2000, Major Leweni, $2500, Maj Pio Tikoduadua, $4000.The balance of $4500 were advances to two naval warrant officers and three army sergeant, recorded only as “Internal operatives” No.1,2,3 and 4 to the sum of $900 each.

Close to $290,000 has been drawn but remains unaccounted and unrecorded.

On proper accounting procedures, per diem allowances and advances that were inappropriately approved by the commander instead of the chief accountant as required under Finance Instructions 207 for details of payments.

The unexpected happened. Nadi was denied the trophy due to the defensive pattern of play the Tailevu ruggers displayed. Not only that, it is the power of God that made the team to win. I was even surprised with 4 attempts at goal being missed and then that dropped ball on the line. Surely, it is just God's own intervention that made glory to this Tailevu Team. Glory to God!

TAILEVU rugggers has silent the rugby pundits another time...well NADI was a strong team...but they failed to materialized...thanks to the defensive pattern of Tailevu...another fact was the decicion makers by NADI to go for the five pointer instead of a three...tries are achieved with determination and sheer guts...One thing Nadi lacks around this time...they must have their brains poluted and demed themselves champiom and must have overconfidence last week against a local Eastern ruggers... well we have witnessed the brains behind a successful team..well done TAILEVU... have another great week of rugby against the Marroons...BILI BILI TIKOGA...me cecebuia tiko na RUVE ni yasana...dou kalougata tiko...!!

The game on Saturday would have been a fitting climax to a very gud season for Fiji Rugby.
I watched the game in Nausori and,from the perspective of a "DIE-HARD NADI FAN", there were NO EXCUSES for the loss.
The stand-out factor on Saturday was the determination and the guts shown by both sides, especially the Naitas, in wanting to retain the coveted cup.

For 25 minutes of the first half, Nadi camped in Tailevu's 22m and rained waves after waves of attack on the Tailevu goal line, only to be met by a very resilient defensive line...Full Marks Tailevu for that.

As for the Nadi boys, their decision making let them down at crucial times (4 kickable penalties at goal was turned down in favor of 5 pointers, which unfortunately, didn't eventuate)..in fact,their confidence level waned at times, there was a clear lack of communications- maybe becoz of the weather- but thats NOT an excuse.The Nadi boys just waited for Tailevu to do something, before they reacted.
Tailevu simply took full advantage of the rare opportunities that came their way, and, to show the Tailevu coach's alertness, he sent in fresh legs just after 10 minutes of the 2nd half,as they took the lead, while Nadi did the opposite.
The best thing that was evident in this game was the DEANS TROPHY products that were on show, especially for Tailevu.
Matanibukaca was a tower of strength in the forwards, while, Keresoni carved up huge chunks of territory with his boot. Sisa Waqa, when he came on, added another dimension to Tailevu's game.(Imagine what Fiji has in store come the 2011 world cup)
For Nadi, it was the "home grown" talents that did the job on Saturday like they had been doing throughout the season. Their "NEVER SAY DIE" attitude and playing right up to the last minute even when the odds were stacked against them, almost,almost, won them the game. FOR THAT, I SALUTE MY NADI JETS TEAM!!!
In a nutshell, Tailevu were deserved winners. They dominated where it mattered, on the scoreboard.
For Nadi, it has been a roller coaster of a ride.With all the politics at the beginning of the season and, winning the Sanyo Cup after 17 years was an achievement in itself. Winnig the Farebrother would have been a BONUS, BUT THAT IS RUGBY...
Once again CONGRATS to the 2 teams for displaying CHAMPAGNE RUGBY under very very TRYING CONDITIONS...like they always say... MATE NA I LAVO, DINAU TALE TU!!! TOSO TAI...PUSH NADI...

Tailevu played Smart Rugby - that is what won them the game...Just after sending Naevo in the last 10 minutes of play Nadi scored. And missed another score in the dying minutes of the game - Why wasn't Naevo sent in on the resumption of the game at 2nd half??? Nadi officials erred in some decisions which would have worked better their way and Naevo was one of them!!
Tailevu played with their hearts and defended the trophy successfully. Being a Vasu ni Tailevu - I am proud of the team. One more left and that is the challenge from the maroons!!! In the meantime Push, Bili Tailevu!!!

I really mean that rugby has also grown and grown old with the weather. Which means we have watched rugby in very very rainy situation.
Rewa and Ratu Cakobau Park is associated with rain and shoggy soccer and rugby pitch.

So nothing new really.

But if Ratu Cakobau Park is turning a lot into unplayable and need OHS attention then it might not be a ggood idea to keep on using the pitch as it affects good rugby required by spectators and rugby followers.
Or is it something, in addition to thier coaching, Tailevu is banking on to off foot possible challengers.

Old Lawaqa Park, during a Suva challenge, was knee deep with mud.Dan Lobendahn made a dropped goal and Nadroga won by 3 points, out of the mud-pitch Lawaqa Park.

Then we can say, all in the game..mud and all...

Sheer bit of luck and rice paddock field for cows and bulls. It is a pity FRFU allowed game on.

While the Tailevu camp is happy with the win, no one is interested with OHS.

Fiji is amognst very few countries that still don't care for human injury. I hope that not until somebody gets seriously injured then only match on such pathetic condition is finally stopped.

FRFU is so keen on getting on with the game that they fail to realise the standard of the ground. I really don't know which is dear a human life or the game.

We all love rugby. I have personally seen some very important provincial games in NZ, in some of them that I played were called off due to heavy ground conditions with temperature less then 10 degrees celcius.

The crowd went home disappointed but safety of players is paramount.

I hope FRFU can wake up now and do not allow rugby to be played in such conditions in future.

Do not forget some of these players have family to look after as well.

If Lautoka wants to win, they must start training in Nausori by Tuesday to get adapted to the weather, Nadi's main weakness is training under good weather...and...you must win the toss first and play against the win in the first half...Thats what Tailevu did last week..

1. Fitness: at every set pieces, Nadi's attacking pack is always overlapping, but Tailevu's quick retreat and organised saves them, with good hard-hitting tackles
2. Team: Tailevu teams is well blended with experience players like Kaila, Sevu and Wate Vocevoce and talented young blokes like Kenatale, Cavuilati, Keresoni and Togalevu....
3. Smart Play: Tailevu play smart that day. Thye know that Nadi's flair is in the backs so they prevent this by giving no chance to hardhitting Vereniki Goneva.
4. Sacrifice: Its now or nver, downed 14 men for 20 minutes need sacrifices.
By they, is there any Fiji rep in the Tailevu side? No one even make it to the trial or considered for the Pacific Super Six! Thats putting trust and faith in your players. We dont need names and experience like what Suva did, only guts and sacrfices.

The coach has it planned and the the 15 Tailevu mission team responded and excuted thier plan well.

Inoke Male must have surely factored in the wet weather condition.

Nadi did not have the plan for the wet weather.

At the end, Nadi was defeated by a better team; fair and square.

Nadi, the will always be a next time around.
