New winner for 10s

WESTERN clubs Vuda Blues of Lautoka and Gaunavou Nadi have topped their respective pools and are strongly tipped for top honors in the Air Pacific Fiji Tens Championship at Prince Charles Park.

Lomaiviti Suva will be the underdogs for the crown.

At the completion of pool play it was clear a new winner would be declared after defending champion Nawaka was bundled into the plate competition

In the quarter finals of the cup competition on Saturday the Gaunavou Nadi side will face Max Jon Vagadra, Vuda Blues will take on Mosi Steelers, Lomaiviti Suva will play Sabeto while Blueridge Gaunavou will face Sabeto.

Dave Madelly of the Hortonella Group which is organising the event said the tournament was disrupted on the first day after some clubs pulled out.

He said things have run smoothly there after with a good blend of rugby on display.

Madelly said Gaunavou Nadi and Vuda Blues would be the teams to watch in the quarter finals tomorrow.

"There have been some close matches, especially in Pool B," Madelly said.

"There were many draws recorded in that pool. Gunnedah which is a New South Wales Country side has been the best overseas performer."

The third day's action kicks off with the plate quarter finals starting at 1pm.

The tournament is offering a total prize purse of $25,000.
