Heads must roll, 7s fans demand
Fiji Times - Tuesday, April 01, 2008 7:52 AM
PEOPLE of all races and walks of life yesterday joined hands in condemnation of the Fiji sevens rugby side's record 34-0 drubbing by New Zealand at the Hong Kong Sevens, calling for the axe to swing.
As soon as Fiji lost in the semi- final, letters started to roll in. The editor's desk has received almost 39 letters by email and another 20-plus handwritten ones.
The common message was sack the coach, bring back Waisale Serevi and the team should include more experience. One writer, Kalvin Narayan, of Nausori, said with Serevi gone, so had God's blessings.
Seasoned letter writer Savenaca Vaka said, "We will pay the price if we do not improve our performance."
Fiji Rugby Union chief executive Ratu Timoci Tavanavanua said everyone was disappointed with the loss.
"I do not blame anyone," he said. "Emotions are high out there. We are all disappointed and the fans, like us, feel the same about the performance."
