Fiji Team Run with current FTG/ATG Army rugby club from Northland defeated our national team 41-0? [Fiji Live Sports- 7/5/08]
Are we heading the same prep at the beginning of the IRB series. As Peter Murphy and supported by Tabua that it will take time for 15 players to adapt to the 7's version - they selected outside those selected from Nadi [apart from Satala @ Marist sevens because of pressure on our comments]. They have contradicted their comments and selected players replacing Ryder etc to the national squad. Why did they not continue the fitness program on Ryder, Volavola and definitely Vunibaka after the last series? Now we have to reset the combination etc. Stupid comments by coach to include Dovumatua? Ryder had promised to make amendments after the last series - than why don’t the coaches etc utilize this and get Ryder and others back on fitness level.
The new team and trial score is a simple sign of yet another start from the first block [One forward two back??]
The current FTG team had three national trialist and current national team member selected in Nadi.This team have developed from a loosing semi in the national trials [Nadi] for provincial teams - playing as Northland, Loosing 1/4 finalist in the Marist 7's, Nawaka Champions, Labasa & the recent Savusavu champions. From the outset it is rather a consistent team with very promising and consistent players - though unknown but doing very well. However with no doubt potentials from other clubs, FRU decided to select from non consistent 7's players [they play well at 15 but need adaptation and time to gel into the 7's mode – which is now a self contradicting statement and strategy by Peter and Savou]. If the score line is so huge than --- I rather leave this to you fellow bloggers to draw your own conclusion to this score line of FTG 41 – Fiji 0.Iam yet to believe this score line.
While we have the most valuable resources "players" available yet we continue to ignore it and yet decide to make our work harder or their is really a lack of foresight and shallow knowledge of the meaning of "strategy" that is now becoming a favourite quote of JS –yet we have to see the fruit of this ever stated strategy. I’ am waiting to see what is the new strategy behind this last outing.

- To Na Kui colo of Nausori...you're criticising Tabua? you think reaching the QFs of 15s RWC is easy? LOL ...7s rugby is only taken seriously in a few rugby nations, a sad fact but true, I didn't know this till I came up north, in Europe 7s is more or less non-existent....We could win back 2 back titles in the IRB 7s and win more 7s RWC,but, we would not get the amount of respect from rugby fans the world over if we reached the last 8 or 4 in the 15s RWC...Fiji Rugby was once again put on the map because of our QFs performance and win against Wales.

- Yes, Matanavou is an upcoming player. He needs to train and exercise more, learn more skills of the game. He is fast & strong. Keep it up Jim & you may be a household name for the future.

Shut....This is only his first game...He contributes to the poorest & shameful record Fiji rugby seven has ever involved at.Dont count your chicks as yet.When he is involved in a winning combination,then this is the time we praise them because they deserve a price.Nonsense..!How can an employee receive his salary first before he work.I tell you .he is good,fast and intelligent,but he needs to be in a winning team...not a loosing team.You mention Serevi who has brougth to us tons of glory..Now you team up with Tabua who has just reached and lost a quaterfinal.You ULU wood.What I am trying to spell out is this..ASSh long assh Tabua & tavanavanua is controlling the FRU with their negative attitude..Fiji will continue to bow heads.A change in the FRU top guns will enable Matanavou to prove his worth..Not now......As you mentioned..Bushlawyers...You are one of them.....You dont know what you are talking about.You cannot deny the facts that during Serevi's hayday..you were one of his great fan...this was when Matanavou ps yet to be seen..So.why have you change your tune now....ass oul...Matanavou..as I said is fast and he will surely be one of our future hero....that is when he joins a winning team and not a loosing team where Savou,Tabua.Tavanavanua and you,the bunch of bushlawyers that are sabotaging Fiji's chances at international level.Moce ULU wood..!

- To Kai Bau.....you are one of those bushlawyers who is not required in decision making regarding Fiji Rugby....If you want Serevi back, then specify as to what role he has to take.[since it is well known that he wants both roles]..
One thing that you must remember that this poor performances and low morale among this sevens players started from the scotland games where they lost against Wales in the last world series..Serevi was their coach at that time....
The unbelievable performance in that quarter final should be thoroughly investigated because that could be a major factor causing this series of poor performances.
No one knows what really happen, but to my observation and the strategy put in place by FRU, it clearly shows that Serevi was a major factor..we see that whenever Serevi jumps into the field the other players don't play really well
FRU are concerned about the up coming sevens players and not about the one person who is about to retire from rugby!!!
We should be happy that after Adelaide sevens our team is coming up again..Savou [Fiji] and Paul [South Africa] are happy while Tiejen [NZ coach] is beginning to worry. It clearly shows that morale is building up among this players.
I hope Timoci Matanavou is not going to be brought up by Serevi otherwise he might end up in Japan playing sevens all his life. Matavnavou is coming up with his own brand of talent and tactics and not copy cat like Ryder who is over dependent on Revi to play well!!!

- Definately,he is very fast.Hi's contribution in Hong Kong was nil.In Adelaide.He kneel because of shame. Pliz note every one in Fiji..as a wing is fast. He was picked out of thousand fast wingers in Fiji.Untill he proves his worth in sevens..then Fiji can count on him. For Tabua...SHUT your big MOUTH..This is your first year in Fiji...Tou have retire from overseas then you come to Fiji..Because your worth and values no longer required in Australia..you tried your luck in Fiji..Cava qo ..va kaji..!Sa broke qai Try luck in Fiji..No fancy talking...You cant match Serevi's record.Now ..you have join the Tailevu power to try and erase Serevi's world record...What a shame on you fellas...As long as Tailevu power is in control...Fiji will continue to suffer...(vere va BAU )

- He is a good player, fast n good in defence. Just need to put on some upper body strength(weights va levu tau!). Just one advise tau, don't pass or kick the ball anyhow when you are in danger(like ryder)look for support. And always alert when Leps breaksaway, he needs you........

- I think he should do all he can to keep improving.From his recent games he is only good at attack but his defence is much to be disired. Needs to develop his upper body and needs to put some muscle on those shoulders of his.Speed is only a portion of the game. A complete player needs to have good defence package as well. You can see the other teams are well developed upstairs which allows them to take two to three fijian boys with them when on attack thus leaving a big overlap to attack on try line.

- Jim is one of the most promising players that has stood out. His ability to run with intense speed at the ball allows him to be virtually untouchable. We have long needed a hot pair of wheels on the wings and now that we've got it, let's make use of him. But the question that remains to be answered is that how does this hot wheels fair when he has to carry the ball into contact. Judging from his body form which is leathel in running but the body mass does may not be of much use in contact areas. At this point, the responsibility lies with the rover to create good gaps and for the forwards to commit more players as to give him alot of space out wide. He rely loves to tease the sidelines with his long strides and horselike sidesteps. He is the cruise missle of the team, give him a nice clear target and he will strike.

- He's got speed and an execellent defender...however he needs to work on his skills on the field to compliment his speed. Imagine if he had the side step of Ryder and the power of Caucau....need I say more?? He needs a NZ contract so they can explore his skills more and build his upper body. The Kiwis did it with Caucau and they can do the same for Matanavou.

- Matanavou could have been the match winner against NZ last nite if only the rest had avoided individualism and conveyed the ball to him. The failure of the rest to acknowledge his presence & potential led to their taking the game away from him much to the relief of the NZ. It is indeed frustrating to see the great effort put up by the Ra man only to be nullified by the selfishness of the rest of the players. Dissapointingly, management could not create a game plan to evolve around the Ra man by providing sufficient space on the flanks by the other players instead of trying to muscle their way up the middle only to lose the ball & again break the hearts of the Fijian fans all over.

- I cannot believe that the commentators decided to overlook the 2 amazing tackles one after another he made against australia to try and save the try from being scored. simply awesome. even though he was easily the skinniest player in the tournament. and his team mates didnt help much by standing around waiting for him to try and stop that score.

- Good player. He has that drive and stinct of hunger to score tries. Good overall player very supportive.
He has a long way to go and the find of the season. He combines very well with Nabuliwaqa - their characteristics of aggressiveness is similar.
