HE is the fastest man in Fiji rugby and he's set to unveil his blistering speed to the world. His name is Vereimi Vilitati Nakuta.

Hailing from Namale Village in Cakaudrove, the 28-year-old is set to be unleashed by in the Digicel sponsored Fiji sevens side.

After unveiling speedster Timoci Matanavou at the last leg, Fiji sevens coach Josateki Savou has another ace up his sleeve.

The 28-year-old has had a roller-coaster ride in the 2007-2008 rugby season.

Representing Cakaudrove East during the Northern Rally last year, the former Queen Victoria School student was drafted into the Sharks franchise for the Colonial Cup competition.

Playing on the wing, he caught the attention of national selectors and was included in the Fiji Warriors squad for the Pacific Rugby Cup competition.

Nakuta was later drafted into the Fiji sevens squad and has been named in the team to compete in the last leg of the IRB Sevens World Series.

He joins Seremaia Burotu and Sailosi Rabonaqica as the new faces in the team.

Known for his blistering pace and sound defence, Nakuta surprised team officials by topping a team speed test, beating Matanavou and veteran Nasoni Roko.

National trainer Nacanieli Cawanibuka confirmed Nakuta was "the fastest man across the board" over 40 metres.

"He did run the fastest time but I cannot reveal his times," Cawanibuka said.

Savou said Nakuta showed a lot of promise and had a lot to offer the team.

Not a man of many words, Nakuta said: "I'll try and show my speed at the tournaments".

Happy with his selection, he paid tribute where due and made a plea to fans.

"I'm really happy and I thank the Lord for helping me get into the team.

"I want to thank those back at home for their support towards my game and I owe a lot to them.

"I Call on the fans to continue to support the team with their prayers."

The side leaves the country bound for England on Sunday.
