Fiji Times - Saturday, December 08, 2007 11:15 PM
FIJI as predicted will play South Africa in the second semi-final at George.
Fiji beat Kenya 24-12 in the last quarter-final.
New Zealand will play Argentina in the first semi-final.
Emosi Vucago got the first try after he broke half hearted tackles to put Fiji up 7-0 after the conversion.
However, Horrace Otieno fended off the Fijian defence to score Kenya's try which was converted.
Neumi Nanuku scored a great individual try to lead 12-7 at the break.
After being out under pressure at the start of the second half, Nanuku again used his individual skills to push Fiji ahead 17-7.
Akuila Nawerecagi got the next try as he broke the Kenya defence. The try was converted. Fiji 24-7
South Africa remain on course to win their home leg of the IRB Sevens World Series for the first time, but only just after denying Scotland an upset with the last play of the match when Vuyo Zangqa touched down to wild celebrations from the crowd.
Scotland players fell to the floor in disbelief as their 17-14 lead - after tries from Ruaridh Jackson (2) and Richie Vernon - disappeared, condemning them to the Plate competition and South Africa to a semi-final with either Fiji or Kenya.
The USA had earlier defended bravely in their first Cup quarter-final since 2002, trailing only 10-0 at half time, but after the break New Zealand ran in four tries to seal a 36-0 victory. Victor Vito scored two in the match and New Zealand will now face Argentina.
Twice Samoa led in the first half, but two Santiago Gomez Cora tries brought his side back to 12-12 at the break. Nicolas Bruzzone then crossed and a touchline conversion and penalty from Lucas Amorosino saw them to a 22-19 victory.
