Fiji to play England

Fiji Times - Monday, February 11, 2008 8:34 AM

FIJI will play England in the plate semi-final at San Diego 7s.

This after the Josateki Savou coached side was given a 28-5 belting by New Zealand in the first quarter-final this morning.

England was upset 17-7 by Kenya in the second quarter-final.

Fiji just didn’t have any answer to the New Zealand outfit which ran the national sided ragged from the opening whistle.

Fiji born Lote Raikabula managed to get two tries in the first half which was both converted by fellow Fiji Tomasi Cama.

Raikabula on both occasion burst through the feeble Fijian defence to score.

Fiji just had too may errors, missed tackles and lack of game plan which never allowed the side to match the Kiwis.

NZ led 14-0 at the break.

After the restart there were more wrong options taken by Fiji and despite having chances, the side just didn’t click.

Ratu Akuila Nawerecagi got a try after Fiji got hold of a loose ball. The conversion was missed by Neumi Nanuku.

The comeback was never going to happen after NZ skipper DJ Forbes got a try after he pounced on a Fijian turnover to race in.

Cama added the extras from the sideline as NZ led 21-5.

In the dying minutes, Forbes got his second after NZ played the typical Fijian style and kept the ball alive.

Cama converted for the 28-05 score line.
