What do you think of day one?
FIJI gave away a 17-0 lead and lost to Samoa in the last pool match. Now the side plays New Zealand in the quarter-finals tomorrow.
What do you think of Fiji’s performance on the first day?

- The writing is on the wall, with little or no strategy, weakness will surface in such competitions. If Savou is to be retained by FRU ignoring the majority airing change in the coaching panel – than possibly an assistant coach is to accompany Savou instead of an influencing trainer. Why trainer, we did not have this in the past – JS is a weak strategist thus he need a co-coach [Bari/Jope] to accompany him. The trainer may be an ex coach of the sevens team but Savou is simply having the same results as he did during his period – the game pattern and wrong positional play was a trade mark of the trainer, now has become JS.
Savou may be a good coach but seems to be a weak strategist to appreciate revolving game pattern displayed and the counter within the time frame?
What’s up FRU – Back to the drawing Board? – I think we will need a bigger board!!
Anyway thanks Boys – enjoy the remaining games and entertain our US supporters.

- Living here in North America and watching All sports but good rugby, it is a great pleasure to watch our Fiji boys with their black and white jerseys take the field to play rugby no matter if it's 15's or 7's. How often do we get to watch Fiji play rugby.. Me and my family personally just love watching Fiji play live no matter the outcome. So now people have faith..Fiji will bounce back as they have said so wait till its over coz it aint over till its over..We are always behind u Fiji win or loose.

- Well another poor perfomance to our boys???pls Tavanavanua wake up...you the one who make the final say and agree about the criteria....fuck that criteria open that door for serevi to master mind the problem so it can be fixed b4 the HK...Tabua is not the man to solve that problem...the king of sevens is the man...Cawanibuka pls stop making comments about sevens,as you are the worst sevens coach to be selected which fiji one the bowl and hardly reach the final...teaching your players are back hand catch???is it are volleyball game...so pls we need serevi, ryder, nabuliwaqa, marika, roko, caucau, bolavucu, volavola, naqelevuki, saravanua, semisi, qera to join cakau and vucago for the remaining of the IRB sevens..Savou you should be fired a.s.a.p and get the fuck out from there,TAMATA LIUMURI.

- Few more hrs before meeting the Kiwis. The discussion have been all the same since the result of the first series, but now gaining momentum because even sideliners are presumably reading the game well than the likes.. Cakau was pointed out by some one earlier that he is not a rover, elusive, kick start runner/swift runner, footwork” and provide that need space for the winger, compared to “Nadruku,Vili Rauluni, Satala, Caucau, Nanuku” He has been playing forward in the last series – he is a increasing velocity type/pick up speed with distance, stiff runner with medium speed. We should not blame him he is trying his best in the position of course with the coach line up, as a player he persist to perfect and accomplish his task [hardworking individual] – he should be upfront where he plays best and suits his style – JS should have known better – Nanuku is still there.
JS has identified the unavailability of a kicker and ball retention on the new kick from Wellington – so what is the new strategy in US – pretty much the same… Why doesn’t he utilize NZ tactics against Samoa – long kick towards the goal line forcing them to opt for line clearing thus retaining possession.
Some improvement from the last, the kick start from the first whistle against Samoa was well executed, assume it should be the same tactics against Kiwi?? They know that all Fiji Teams, against front runner teams always tend to strike late or when they are down – it than they play time. On the other side, we tend to slow down when we have the upper hand and seem to come up with unstructed/individual game pattern, because we seem to have the feeling of a win in the bag – but overseas players play their heart out until the final whistle despite the score etc – unlike Fiji [“scores go up – head goes down” or “scores is breached/equaled – “panic and tension rise”]. Unless we have experience and game reading captain or for that matter a vice captain / coach to remind them. Consequently we play into their pattern [upfront], NZ may be adopting the same pattern [1/4’s] since we lack that size, bulk and height for the most – it’s a good tactics against our because it sucks in our defence.
We were masters of scissors and open pattern creating gaps on the opposing yet when we are lured into their pattern it seems we cannot transpire to return to our pattern. – Why because the typical anger within to mix it up physically seems to prop up – the fear of being branded ‘lamu2/yate lailai/ puff etc comes into mind – typical Fijian macho theory.
Physically in our presence, the need to dig deep into our strategy for the best – anyway Serevi is still making that final and added bonus of any team – talk about the last drop and wining conversion in yesterdays Waidina final.
Unfortunately the strategy to avoid NZ in the ¼’s did not materialize so hopefully our lucky stars may bless us tomorrow and hopefully narrow the points gap, when all hopes are down. “All” - they will be playing on Sunday, so attend church Christians, pray for them, let the SDA cheer them on…we can always look forward to the replay if they win and not breaking our heart and not going to church if they loose “win-win”
Thanks to all “Kai Viti” in US – “Cheer them on”

- Fiji had a good day one but one thing stood out like a sore thumb, the drop goals as well as getting possession from the opposition restarts....that was the case in the game against samoa, fiji could not gather any of the possessions from their kick off..
Fiji also lacked leadership upfront, who is able to calm the players when the going gets tough..looking at the samoa game, fiji had possession toward the end of the game but they knocked on..
Fiji seriously needs some experienced players to guide the upcoming talents, and no doubts fiji has plenty...
as for the calls to change the coach...well that usually happens every time fiji plays badly...and that is a big problem....fiji needs a coach and not changing them after the end of the irb series...i stand to be corrected..but i think since the series started, fiji had a different coach at the start of a new series...so that 9 coaches in 9 series...as for NZ..its the same coach...
so i hope fiji keeps jo savou and does not change him...but i think the FRU should stop interfering with the selection panel...they should decide who should play for fiji...nt FRU...
so i hope fiji blends in some experienced players together with these new young boys..
all the best fiji for tomorrows game..

- with possession and kicking problems and false hopes given as an excuse for the poor performance, i think itz definately a time to give someone the boots...i do realise that no coach or team goes out to lose deliberately but after 16 games OR 3 tournaments and still no results i just intent to ask Mr. timoci tavanavanua of FRU what he saw in jo savou that he released serevi and assigned him(savou) the team resposibilities...i see that the NZ rugby union and South African's never lost faith in gordon tietjens or paul treu because those are the people who have a greater understanding of the elegant 7's flow than anyone else...serevi needs an apology and no one should questions as to how he runs the team...fiji has no hopes of retaining this 2007/2008 title even if it wins the HK 7's coz definately they will lose in some other tourney...

need 2gether, b4 a winning combination
is produced????
Back in the days when there was just
HK 7S, Fiji would prepare a team in just
3 wks and still come up with winning results.(90's)
But now???? .
Get SEREVI back and kick SOMEONE out.

- The game against Samoa came begging our way. Unfortunate Fiji. This team still do not have any aerial battle specialist player..what's the use of Lewaqai. Everyone knows how Uale Mai always take a kickoff. Never in the management of the team Fiji notices. Defence is absolutely weak. The FRU should appoint Serevi as the technical adviser to the upcoming HK and the rest of the IRB circuit. Too much Kasibulu and the games committee for the selection criteria. Keep the selection door open. Hope that Fiji will make the semis.

cakau should moved back to hooker's berth..he is useless on the flanks..how many times players from NZ and Samoan's beat him on the outside...lewaqai is useless...can't even win any kick offs or contest the kick offs..joe sud have given ratuva as the replacement..because that hopeless kid from sabeto knock on that last pass...cakau sud have send that pass out wide....all these comes from a coach that never learn from his mistake...team to take on NZ sud be.....naba,cakau,maya...mawi,vucago,nanuku and akuila....all the best boys...

- The truth will always prevail. It's time to get the maestro back. This is the one only magician in seven. Give him another chance to run the show. He has proved himself in every aspect of seven as a player or coach. There are good and bad times but the maestro has the game plan to tackle any team when the going is tough. I'm 100% sure Fiji will bow out after the quarter unless miracle happens.

- Coaches r da ones to be blamed always wen dere is a down fall & fired for lame excuses. Perhaps its time to re-look at da selection board panel.
7's has become very popular now wth these IRB tournaments. All countries are developing well n fast. Where r our developments plans.
Bring back SEREVI, he was heading in the right directios n developing players. Give him another chance. He is a master of dis game n neva in the world will a player like him be born.

- Did a different team go to play on the second half or what? I would really like to hear what the coach said at half time. It sounded like...
don't worry about retaining possession, don't worry about making the first tackle, don't worry about playing as a team, lose to Samoa so that we can take on NZ.
Really, Joe!!! Great tactical plan. Ask for guidance when you know you're out of your depth. Swallow your pride, pick up the phone and ask Serevi for some assistance. But before all that, ask God first for guidance.

- Overall, it was a good day for Fiji. Retaining ball at the tackle area still a big concern. Fist tackle also a big problem.
I thought they should have used the game against the WI to fine tune their ball retention skills over a period of time by both using the full width of the field and at contact area.
Good luck againts NZ.

- I think Fiji did bit better than in Wellington but there is still room for improvement and have a great battle against New Zealand in the Quarter- final. Retaining kick- offs is one of the most important thing in 7's which Fiji is lacking at the moment.
Well players should re-group and tune up before facing the unbeaten New Zealand team.

- Well, boils down to consistency and experience.!!Oilei Viti..Anyway the 1/4 should gauge the team against Kiwi before HK and a chance to narrow the competition series points if they topple NZ - unfortunately, Peter Myrphy have said that this is a trial and error for our new team and managment staff - so we are not expecting any outright win but lucky stars..
Good luck Fiji in the 1/4's. Please ignite and strike from the start just like Samoa but maintain consistency and focus..utilize some experience in store and play the time if you are leading..
