What do you think of FRU's new move?

FRU has now said that players will have to take part in the Marist 7s to be in contention for Hong Kong?
Do you think they acted too early previously in naming the sqaud for HK?
Do you think this is the right move?

The FRU should be very careful of new rules and announcements like this. The game of rugby is big in our country and its moving forward faster than anticipated. We need to keep up and amend the rules yearly. We dont have to bring and apply the " P " word to it. Ego is one thing but education is the key to success. Open your mind and you shall see.

FRUs mouth is too fast n their action is hopeless. What the hell the marist 7s bring to a player who has been shaping himself up from the previous years n months. It is their duty to follow up in all the tournaments which player is the best in which position.they should come up with atleast 3 names per position which will comes to 21 players since the seasons starts.Than the 12 big names to take us to Son Kon Po,we are not going to comment on them but instaed the are the source of blood pressure to us the die hard fans of 7s in our VITI LOMANI.Marist 7s or no marist 7s the fiji flag will be flying in Happy Valley .But its the fru bone in their throat weather the flag is flying in full mast or half mast after the final whistle.....

Yes, i think they should pick the team to HK7's from the Marist 7's.

Thats all, and also the fitness and enduarance, speed needs to be relooked into.

Finley of Ballard, I completely agree with you, what is required at FRU is a much greater degree of professionalism, not only in the administration of the game but just as importantly in the development of all players and other stakeholders involved in our national sport.

FRU top management must be able to make hard decisions and be a lot more discerning and transparent in all their processes delaing with all squads. The cronyism and insider trading must stop.

Northland - well done mate, you have no idea how right you are. Keeping digging in that direction and you will uncover a lot more. My hope is that the truth comes out before we sink any further.

i dont know why i think of sevens and fifteens as a sport... and entertainninig feature of life.... but maybe thats the same attitude the board has.... in that we havent accepted that this is a lucrative carreer maker and buisness and needs more proffessional vision and thrust to it.
That we need to give it more than just a sporting attitude..where the egos of the board are developed instead of the players life and carreers.

THE FRU WILL CONTINUE TO EAT THEIR OWN FANCY WORDS UNTIL THEY HUMBLE THEMSELVES, SWALLOW THEIR PRIDE, PUT ASIDE THEIR PERSONAL DIFFERENCES, DO NOT ACT LIKE GOD AND RECOGNISE FIJIANS WHO HAVE PROVEN THEMSELVES. THE ISSUE IS NOT TO KEEP THEIR EGO BUT DO WHAT IS GOOD FOR ALL.

Could Peter Murphy justify his line "rebuilding stage"??? Rebuilding for what? during IRB? or for HK? If it is for HK than tell the nation so we may accept the trial and error - because we are not going for IRB points and overall champion?? [Where is this Puff from...- Kiwi, he is Tienjan eye here - thus the statement from Kiwi coach..]FRU dont be charmed by his sweet talk -did he rebuild the team for World Cup 15???NOOOO

Where did this Marist sevens sprout out from thus forgoing the BP series and be now used for HK selection 'shame on EX Marist @ FRU"- playing money and game politics - now Fiji Bitter is spending less on other clubs because of this Marist club [Joe Rodan Ex connection]. If this is the case, than FRU should give other club organizers the same right." is this club championship or national championship???

    Serevi shared this same sentiment

We need to blend experience and with new [70-80% old and 30-20%] we are the other way round. Look at NZ, SA, Samoa,etc... Cut the shit Murphy and tell the nations - so we may not expect anything from IRB series - it seems you are telling us this is a selection trial for HK..come HK totally new team??? Speak to the nation FRU...Now he is saying to make comments after US sevens, for what same team if they win?? They have yet to play NZ, Aussie, Tonga to further surface our weakness to their advantage, than FRU back to square one??? New team, coach etc.etc.etc...

Peter Murphy is taking us on a boat ride named "suasua yani suasua mai - "one gear forward and two back"

why the FRU changing their rules!!! well becox we didn't do well in wellington..i hope Serevi n Nabuliwaqa will play in Marist 7's to show their stuff and get back to the Fiji team..

I think its not a matuared move and it is very childish , because we already have the potential one's and are available who always go out there and play their hearts out for their country. I think people who running the government are also running the FRU ...AND ONE THING THEY HAVE IN COMMON...MARIST BOYS.
  15. jone of feejee
Bring back the wizard and Epeli Lagiloa as manager...for next year's RWC 7s and IRB series...you can forget about winning this year's IRB series!! The players are not to blame, keep the core of this team together and building on their development by adding a few experienced hands esp in the forwards.

Some people have to swallow their pride or in case to be seen to be serious , they have to be forcefully removed , either as players, coach. adminstrators or Board members.
When watching the Wellington 7s,from day 1 till yesterday at the airport; all we could see were faces of depressions, distress and uncertainties. The fruit is the manifestation of the type of plant and environment its growing in. My prediction is that this teams performance in San Diago will be the same as in Wellington. So for the sake of the Fijian people who have the passion for this game; the above drastic actions must be made. I suggest bring on the Drifters Team and management or expect the unexpected Fiji !

All we want is for the players from last year's IRB series to play in the remaining tournaments....including the legend himself,Sir-Revi....FRU should know how presitgious the Hong Kong tournament and the IRB coverted crown is to us the people of Fiji when it comes to sevens..so why the look around for new players when we already have Nabuliwaqa, the maestro himself and gang...so selectors, think about it!
  19. Maria Beranadeta of Suva,Fiji Islands.
How about naming the players after the IRB Sevens Series!!!...they must be joking...to save them from running around like fools, ask for the Maestro's help because he is the solution to what they are looking for!

Isnt that an unfair decision made by FRU?Since when Marist Seven recognised to be the selection for 7's rugby tournament. What about potential guys who cannot make it to such tournament but able to shine in other 7's tournaments?I hope it's not an influence of Old Boys - Marist from IG to rugby?Something to think about...

So there's a Plan B at the great Marist 7s. Let's believe in the power and the x-factor of youth but get the maestro Serevi in for HK for one last hurrah! At the Dubai 7s he was a drawcard even in the invitational tournament. He is rugby 7s mana personified!HK and the world would love to say farewell to a great son! Ratu Keni was in Dubai on Day 2, he watched Serevi in action. He's still got the oomph eh! If we can't select him for Fiji then do it for Rotuma! Cheers!

That was a good move by the FRU, and they should make change right after wellington seven. We realy need the service of marika, naevo, ryder, nabuliwaqa, and nasoni if we realy serious about winning in SAN DIEGO. Come on FRU Don't play politic on game, coz it doe'nt go with it, FIJI RUGBY SUPPORT AROUND THE WORLD ARE WATCHING AND LISTENING.
  23. bill of Lautoka
Stick with the original squad picked in lautoka..and maybe have Vunibaka as captain..leading from the front and have leps, ryder and sir-revi included in the backs!!!

These idiots are obviously in panic mode. You've already picked the players, stick with them and monitor their progress until selection day. Why fark everything up now? Incidentally, why the Marist 7's? I thought the National 7's was the selection stage. Someone needs to step in and clean house on these muthers!

FRU is not in a good position to allow players we want.(the best and experience)SIR-REVI(cpt)Forwards-Volavola,Naba,Marika,Naulia,Qera Backs-Vucago,revi,Iliavi,Cakau,Rider and the rest you choose FRU from those inexperience boys from wellington.VINAKA AND GOD BLESS FRU.
  27. yasa of suva
its good that FRU has done this.at least they know that the best players are still not in the team and in the squad for HK.no offence to the selected ones but we need the best to avoid embaressment agaisnt our rivals. wether it is the marist 7s or just anaca tournament, we jus need the best players.thank you FRU for stepping down from your high chair. kua so na high shot!!!!
  28. vrn of Suva
FRU's next move should be GIVE THE COACH THE FREEDOM TO PICK HIS OWN PLAYERS!!!!! Hands off FRU from team selection.FRU you run the organisation let the coach and the manager run the team.

All we want is the best players available to represent our country, simple as that. When you let a coach's pride and FRFU bullying tactics dominate selection you will see results like in Wellington. In all honesty, Vucago, Cakau & Nanuku were the only players that made the grade in Wellington. We need to bring back experienced players like Mo Volavola, Vunibaka and Naibuliwaqa (who were all available for Wellington!!). Anw were is our "PACE" man on the wing?? W need someone with geniune speed and confidence once they get the ball in space. I would have liked to see someone like Randel Kamea given a chnace, he broke Doug Howlets 40m record in Auckland and has the fastest time of all the Fiji reps, yep faster then Caucau and Bobo and was the leading try scorer for NZ secondary schools, hopefully we come to our senses before NZ lock him into a contract.

I do agree with Lex of Natewa. They first said that the Team to Hong Kong was selected in the National seven tournament that was held in Nadi but now they change again.
  32. Steeler of Cakaudrove
Why the Marist 7s? Is FRU been run by Marist OB? If so, no wonder FRU is lacking and changing its strategy and criterias? Marist never was successful in rugby, whether in school rugby or club rugby competition. But they were good in manipulating and taking advantage of people on top. Sack the FRU Board especially the marist OB!!!!!
  33. Lex of Natewa
in future, a lesson to learn, do not finalise plans but have rooms for amendments especially in the game of rugby. and also do consider comments in the media, whether radio, papers as an assessment tool for your performances. do not let them go wasted.
