What do you think of Savou staying on?

THE Fiji Rugby Union has said current sevens coach Jo Savou will stay on until the end of the season.
Is this the right move?

Savou cannot be blamed for the loss, he picked up the pieces when Serevi was dumped.FRU must take responsibility and explain the reason Serevi was sacked.AGM at Holiday Inn is the best forum to iron out all this debacle. No excuse this time.
  4. mad max of UAE
Savou to understudy Serevi at least 3 years.FRU to listen to Serevi during this 3 years.the board to disappear from serevi in this 3 years. After tis all 3 than Savou will be an Ace coach and someone should understudy him for the next 3 years and Fiji will be back as a world contender in 7s.At the moment the So Kon Po ground is only for the brown matured coach n not the young green .

savou ,pack and go,you are not fit to coach our national seven team.CEO FRU give serevi a chance to coach our national seven team,If not then CEO FRU is better for you to resign.

Absolutely correct, we cant keep on changing coaches after every other game. The coach will need time to mold these new players into a winning combination. Its not done overnite. Jeez, look at NZ their coach has been with them for ages. We should all be patient and give these guys a chance. They are on the right track towards the 7's world cup - that is the real prize here right?

Give the coach another chance. If he cannot make it againthis time well chop him out and the the rest of the board. They should mix old and new players. Good luck boys try your best.
  12. Faraaz of Tavua Fiji
The coach should be retained.Fru should stop chaging coaches every now and then. When Serevi failed to win the Irb Sereies he should not have been dropped as a coach. He should have been given another chance. If this was so the team would have performed much better this season. When a new coach comes he needs time to build a good team. For the current team it needs more time to do well in tournaments and the Fru should retain the coach no matter the coach performs well or fails as more time will allow the coach to build a better team.
  13. Duavata of NZ
The performance of the team in the past tournaments has clearly indicated the calibre of the coach,if nothing will be done to rectify the problem then we are just shooting ourselves in the leg.

Right after the Wellington Sevens and with all the frustration, I had asked for Mr. Savou to be kicked out of his job.
Now we are one day from the San Diego 7's. All I will tell Savou, I am supporting you one more time. You got to prove yourself by winning this one for Fiji. Not even second best.
If not a win then do the most honorable thing, RESIGN.
Or else shit is on your head.
FRU should change the coach this time around.
    Bring back Serevi.

Kick both Js and the manager out.The perfomance of the team reflects their leadership.Im sure the boys they dont like them. The team need a down to earth and approchable person like Serevi and not a person like the manager of the team who always want to put up a high face and not listening to the players. The boys need to be happy before they can perform to the best of their ability. How can you expect them to fight the good fight when the manager is very strict and autocratic.Throw him out first before the coach and you will see the result.

Firstly,I would like to thank our Fiji Team for their efforts they gave in their last 3 tournaments so far.Even though it hurts us when we look at the results but imagine how much we hurt them when we started to give negative remarks & pointing fingers at them. They!re our real Fijian players which everyone has a village,a tikina,a yasana and for surely all the players has their own chief and I want to say that everybody is a veiwekani here.I salute our two great man of rugby in giving their views in todays newspaper(Mr Tabua & Mr Serevi).Mr Tabua said that he is willing & ready to help our sevens coach(Mr Savou) when they finished from San Diego this weekend. We need that kind of attitude that helps and gives inspirations to the team that we can do more better than the last time."Everybody needs somebody"- in giving ideas, thoughts, sharing, directions etc.......!So, thank you Mr Savou & the team for representing our Fiji Sevens Team so far before returning home next week from San Diego.GOD BLESS U ALL!

Timoci Tavanavanua did not like Serevi and Mr. Epeli Lagiloa. Personal differences has made Fiji 7's suffer. Those of you at Rugby House cannot deny this- I am in the know.

In the end, what should be done is this- Tavanavanua and his Marist mates to get out of Rugby House then we shall see positive moves and changes.

Just a thought though- I never connected the names of Tavanavanua and Kasibulu to the paddock of rugby- it was always Lambert Hall. No wonder their fronts are larger than their behinds!

Give Savou and his boys a chance to redeem themselves, you cannot stay winning all the time. All teams do come prepared for the game they love to win. So if the boyz wins or lose that is all part of the game. Why blame Savou and his boyz or the FRU. I always trusted Serevi but not until the last leg of the 2006/07 series when he lied to the Fiji Public, that none of his boys were boozing prior to their last game 2007 when the series ouch....slipppped off theirrr/ourrrr hands. Later it was revealed to the contrary (Managers report) But again its all part of the game Don`t You Think.

"Savou admitted the role of the captain will be thoroughly scrutinised by the management in the next few days.

He said discipline was a key area in the abbreviated code." Fiji Times 6/2/08

This issue on discipline was the center of discussion before the team left - Serevi disciplined Ryder on almost the same reason as Naba and dropped him out on a series, though he [Ryder] was considered the "X" factor - however without William they still won.

E sega ni caka ekeri na veisorosorovi ni gunu yaqona JS - disciplined must be served [off course with justification -you were the co-coach to serevi and should have known]. You should have known better considering your professional status. FRU there must be a line somewhere???

  58. Northland of Northland
Savou was part of Serevi’s team and so are the panel of selectors – I assume when Serevi goes – all should go, they were “a team” was Serevi only to blame for their shortfall – it is a shame on Savou and FRU

We do agree that Savou to complete LA – but FRU statements is contradicting Peter Murphy’s statement’s that this is trail period for our new players” and probably new management, rather confused – FRU should tell the nation so we should not expect a win from the IRB series 2007 – 2008 but expect a win in 2008 – 2009 series. What is so hard about facts – or there is disarray at FRU. Common you are reading all the comments and the verbal dissatisfaction over the media – it tell you all that the nation hurts, look at Samoa – the PM made a comments on their loss. FRU rugby is not a business or politics walk out and feel the heat and need of the nation….

Maybe you need a back up coach – Tuikabe or Bari to plot the game pattern and strategy during the game or after before the next. Why take the trainer when the coach himself is a trainer/Jope/Bari. It seems the same game pattern of trainer is also visible in the team…?

Now you have decided to maintain Savou, why not Serevi than??

Guess, their must be hundreds/thousands of phone call bills to NZ and now LA to try and shut all negatives comments but it still does not take away the facts. Why? – We have all what it takes, natural and abundant of talents that no other team have but we lack the consistency of winning only second to NZ who develop through strategy and consistency.

Savou needs to come down hard on the boys. Savou, stop twitching you eye and ensure that the boys are psyche up to do battle...battle of no return...TAKE NO PRISONERS...too much half hearted tackles.
it baffles me to see that the opposition knows where a Fiji player will throw the ball while his own mates doesn't.Thats my concern on Savou's strategy

We need Serevi to do the Job right.

Serevi has made us win one of the IRB series and we lost one narrowly to all blacks

I dont think any other coach has made us win IRB series

Come on FRU when will you learn. I hope it wont be too late

The performances speak for themselves. Serevi delivered us the 1st IRB series win although he tripped on the last hurdle en route to the 2nd series win. However this year it is all but tied up by the All Blacks who with a couple more wins would have wrapped up the series. I see the same thing happening over and over again indicating the FRU is hard of learning from past experiences. Other coaches were brought in previously and hopes were high but when it came to the real test they all failed. Only Serevi delivered. This should be a real lesson to the FRU that competition these days is not easy as they think as it showed and experience is essential in getting the upper edge. The leading team themselves NZ are showing this example same coach same set of players and victories all the way.

Let us be honest here as we look at the big picture in that one can only take another one to the levels or places that one has been to. Where can we see Jo Savou in the light of this scenerio in comparison to Waisele Serevi. NOooo ! not in any way at all.Wai has alot ,alot. to offer in termsofconfidence, leadership, experience, sacrifice. players welfare and many many many more. FRU BOSSES have to swallow their PRIDE and humble themselves to the Fijians 7s game supporters and to right the thing . They have to call back Wai to coach and look after the team or else Fiji 7s team shall expect the unexpected. See the Fiji entering in the BOWL and SPOON competitions.
  70. Maniue Vilsoni of United Arab Emirates
Savou's good! He worked in tandem with Serevi 'n' achieved a good combination. Why did FRU split the pair? What the duo needed was a good manager. Now let's believe in the tyros. Select more speedsters, smarter players, deadeye kickers 'n' a spokesman who can eyeball the IRB refs 'n' say "your performance stinks!" I told James Jones 'n' his linesmen exactly that in Dubai.
  71. rzmatz of fiji
The San Diego outcome must ressurect him. He is already on the crucifixon mode from Wellington
