Big test for U20

Fiji Times - Monday, April 14, 2008 7:56 AM

THE Junior Flying Fijians will get a chance to test strength and gauge the opposition when it takes on Australia in a warm-up match on May 25 in Sydney.

The side will get coaching tips from former England and 2003 Rugby World Cup winning prop Trevor Woodman at a three-day training camp starting today.

Fiji and Australia are in the same pool for the Junior World Cup in Wales in June together with England and Canada.

Fiji Rugby Union High Performance Unit manager Peter Murphy said the match would follow the one-off Test against Tonga in Lautoka on May 17.

"This is a perfect opportunity for our side," Murphy said.

"It will be a very good hit out and while it is not a fully fledged Test, it will give us different views of the team."

Fiji coach Rayne Simpson said the three-day camp in Sigatoka will focus on individual and unit skills.

"We're working on perfecting our set pieces scrums, lineouts, mauling for the forwards and attack/defence principals for our backs," Simpson said.

"This camp will give us an opportunity to work on and build team culture and values, which is just as important as the technical rugby program."

Simpson said Woodman would assist in getting the set pieces in order.

"We coach together at Sydney University Rugby club and he has shared a lot of information on the Northern hemisphere style of preparation and control in the set piece."
